Have you ever found yourself out on the water fishing, and then have something happen to the downrigger, like loosing a ball, or noticing a frayed wire? For these circumstances it is good to have a Downrigger First Aid Kit on board. Here is mine…
My kit includes:
- Wire cutters & crimpers
- Terminal sets
- Downrigger ball
- Line clips
- Parachute cord (cause why not?)
I put all this in a shotgun shell box. It all fits in fairly well.
The completely assembled box conveniently fits in one of the storage areas in my boat.
Other ideas of what you can add include:
- Downrigger stops (for electric downriggers)
- Spare cable/braid
- Any other tool/part you think you might need (and fits in the box)
A kit like this on board can let you recover from some mishap, instead of your trip turning into a disaster.
